Sustainability in German tourism destinations
A nationwide, exclusive online survey conducted by mascontour GmbH in cooperation with ITB Berlin in 2014/2015 analysed sustainable tourism in German holiday destinations for the first time. The study took a look at understanding the importance of sustainability, responsibilities and commitment, implementation and need for action from the perspective of destinations. The result: sustainability can no longer be ignored in German tourism.

She holds a dual Master’s degree in International Affairs from the universities Sciences Po Paris and the University of St. Gallen and specialized in climate change issues and development cooperation. Climate-Counscious Travel
With our increasingly globalized society comes more mobility, both in business as well as in private life. Despite all of globalization's advantages, its climate impact cannot be ignored: If we want to limit global warming to 2°C, our Earth's atmosphere can only handle a limited amount of CO2. Since most modern means of transportation run on fossil fuels, further growth in mobility will quickly outstrip our global carbon budget. Therefore, avoidance and reduction of emissions ought to have priority whenever possible.
However, as long as climate-friendly alternatives to air travel do not exist, voluntary offsetting of flight emissions is an effective solution. The non-profit organization atmosfair offers individuals the possibility to calculate their travel emissions and offset their flight directly over its website. atmosfair actively protects the climate by offsetting greenhouse gases through renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in developing countries.
